Ready for a health inspection

Checklist for hairdressers, barbers, beauticians, manicurists and pedicurists in the Czech Republic · as of September 25, 2026

New since January 1, 2026: operating rules no longer have to be submitted to the public health authority for approval or posted on the wall. You still need to have them written and available at your salon. Instead of approval, you now just notify the authority in writing when you start, significantly change or close your business.

Go through the items and check off what you have. Fix anything you can’t check off before an inspection. Each item shows where the requirement comes from: a section = directly in the law; “KHS template” = what regional public health authorities list in their templates of operating rules.

1. Documents and obligations

I notified the regional public health authority (KHS for the location of my salon) in writing that I started operating – no later than on the first day.A significant change in the scope of services and closing the business must be reported too. I have written operating rules (provozní řád) and keep them at my salon.They must cover operating conditions, machines and devices used, infection prevention including disinfection and sterilization, personal hygiene, handling of linen and cleaning.Sec. 21(3), Act No. 258/2000 Coll.

I can explain in my own words how I disinfect, sterilize and what I do if someone gets hurt.During an inspection, the authority may test your “knowledge necessary to protect public health”. Anyone who lacks it may not work until they pass an exam.Sec. 19, Act No. 258/2000 Coll.

2. Premises and water

I have a hand-washing sink with running hot water, soap and disposable towels or a hand dryer.Sec. 52(a), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
Work surfaces and equipment are easy to wash and disinfect and are not damaged.Sec. 51(1)(a), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
I keep personal belongings and street clothes in a changing room or a designated spot, separate from work clothes.Sec. 51(1)(d), (f), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
No unauthorized people or animals enter the back rooms (except guide and assistance dogs).Sec. 51(1)(e), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.

3. Tools and disinfection

After every client, I clean my tools mechanically → wash them in hot water with detergent → disinfect them → rinse them with drinking water.Sec. 51(2)(i), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.

I dilute disinfectants and leave them to act exactly as the manufacturer instructs.KHS template

I keep a virucidal disinfectant at hand in case of contact with blood.Sec. 51(2)(g), (j), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
I know what to do if something gets blood on it: cover it with gauze or paper wadding soaked in virucidal disinfectant, let it act, then clean up using disinfectant. A tool: virucidal disinfection → clean in hot water with detergent → dry → sterilize.Sec. 51(2)(j), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
Disinfectants are registered as biocides or medical devices, kept in their original packaging and within their expiration date.KHS template

4. Sterilization – where the skin is broken

Tools that break the skin (e.g. needles, scalpels) are sterile.Sec. 51(2)(i), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.

5. Linen

I use clean linen or disposable material for every client.Sec. 51(2)(c), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
A clean cape or cover protects the client’s clothes during the service.Sec. 51(2)(f), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
I keep clean linen separate from used linen. Used linen goes into a leak-proof, closable container that can be washed and disinfected, or a disposable one.Sec. 51(2)(a), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.

6. Cleaning and waste

I clean my workstation thoroughly after every client.Sec. 51(2)(d), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
I clean right after anything gets dirty, otherwise at least once a day, with a damp method.Sec. 51(2)(d), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
Equipment for heavy cleaning is labeled and stored separately from equipment for work surfaces.Sec. 51(1)(b), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
The trash can has a lid, and I empty and disinfect it daily.Sec. 51(2)(e), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
I put waste with blood separately into a covered, rigid container. I never recap used needles.Sec. 51(1)(c), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
I collect sharps (razor blades, needles, scalpels) in a sharps container and hand them over to a licensed company – the contract is available for inspection.KHS template

7. Personal hygiene

I wash my hands before and after every client, after using the toilet, after handling waste and whenever they get dirty.Sec. 52(a), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.
During all opening hours I wear clean work clothes and shoes, plus protective equipment suited to the job (e.g. gloves).Sec. 52(b), Decree No. 137/2004 Coll.

9. Keep at hand in case of an inspection

Operating rules (up to date)
A copy of the notice of starting operations that I sent to the authority
A contract for disposal of sharps / waste with blood (if I have such waste)
Proof of the sterilizer check, or a contract with a sterilization center (if I sterilize)
A list of disinfectants and their instructions (dilution, contact time)
Proof of qualification in the field and a trade license
